I’ve had so many friends and family members message me their love and support with the music video release of ‘Where I Belong.‘ Many mentioned it was a timely video, whether it be because of the season of life or season of faith they find themselves in; or perhaps the conversations their in with others who are on the faith-journey. I’m grateful for the opportunity to create and pray it continues to encourage and entertain many. With that kind of production, you know as well as I do there was a brilliant team of creatives making it happen! The creative and collaborative process behind the video was extremely fun because it was done with great friends who wanted to create for the sake of creating. Be sure to holler at them for their efforts – they’re brilliant and generous and I’m forever grateful for who they are!
It’s every persons responsibility and joy to respond to the Lord with worship for all He is. Thankfully, I have a Senior Pastor who takes that responsibility seriously, understands and lives out a life of worship and supports the use of the arts in our weekend worship gatherings. I receive daily insights from Pete and today’s describes his heart and understanding for worship. I loved this: Worship is so encompassing because it’s an expression of our heart and decision of our will. It’s a conscious choice to realize that God is “the center” of our communities and our personal lives. Read the full article here and subscribe to Pete’s daily emails at www.tellingthetruth.org!

I’ve never been big on resolutions but I am big on remembering. Because it’s when I remember what God has done for me and who He says I am, I’m more resolved than ever to allow Him to live His life in and through me. Colossians 1:9-14 is a passage I love going to in remembrance: We ask God to give you a complete understanding of what He wants to do in your lives, and we ask Him to make you wise with spiritual wisdom. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord and you will continually do good, kind things for others. All the while, you will learn to know God better and better. We also pray that you will be strengthened with His glorious power so that you will have all the patience and endurance you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father, who has enabled you to share the inheritance that belongs to God’s holy people, who live in the light. For He has rescued us from the one who rules in the kingdom of darkness and He has brought us into the Kingdom of His dear Son. God [...]

My wife, Lindsey, and I, along with our crazy-awesome 3 year old, Beckham, welcomed another baby boy to our family last Wednesday, October 24 at 4:59am. Jenner James Wilson – he’s a handsome chunk weighing 9lbs 4oz and 22inches long! We’ve really had a great week adjusting to what it means to now be a family of four. Mom and baby are doing great and Beckham couldn’t be more proud. No surprise, there have been some late nights and early mornings with our new little guy. It’s there in the quiet, I tell him: Your God made you. He knew you before your mom and I did. He saw your unformed body and designed every detail perfectly. You are His masterpiece. He has incredible plans for you. Incomprehensible as it is, your God loves you more than your mom and I ever could. I pray for the day you’ll understand how great His love for you is. Of course, being a dad is God’s gift of grace to me. As I pray these truths over my boys, I hear the Father praying them over me. This day, may you hear Him praying them over you as well.

Jealousy is something we all face. On different occasions, as an artist, worship leader and song-writer, I’ve ashamedly thought to myself, “I can’t believe he’s leading at that church,” or “I can’t believe that band is getting to play on that show,” or “how is he getting to speak at this conference?!” This thought-life is absolutely destructible and has no place in the life of a believer. Because when I think like this, I’m first and foremost forgetting the mission God has placed ME on. I’m forgetting the beautiful and eternal story that He’s writing and including me in. These are the opportunities He’s specifically called me to and when I walk in obedience, it’s really His gift of grace to me – for my joy and His glory! If we let ourselves, we’ll always think the grass is greener on the other side when the reality is, the grass is greenest where it’s watered (I know I heard that somewhere and I like it!) Here’s an excerpt from a recent Donald Miller post titled “4 Tips on Tackling Jealousy” that I found to be very encouraging. Read the full article here. Jealousy is often a passive-aggressive mental reaction to [...]

I’ve recently been reading Louie Giglio and Matt Redman’s re-issue of ‘Indescribable: Encountering the Glory of God in the Beauty of the Universe.’ From the back of the book, “this inspiring book brings together devotional insight, scientific thought and fascinating images of the universe …noting just how powerfully the wonders of the cosmos can speak to us of the majesty and mercy of our Maker.” It’s been a great read learning the insanity of how limitless our world is and the reality that in all creation – which tells of His handiwork, creativity and ability – we are His most prized possession, made in His image, whom He sent His Son to save and now abides within! The vastness of the universe isn’t something I frequently consider but reading this certainly gave me renewed sense of awe and wonder at a God who spoke all to existence yet created man by breathing life into being, forever giving purpose and including us in His story. Now, a cheesy dad-story alert: It wasn’t 10 minutes after I finished reading Indescribable one morning this past week, when my 3-year old son Beckham called for me as he awoke. I went up to his [...]

With the attractive slowing which summer living offers and what’s turned out to be generous days of songwriting, I’ve neglected the time to sit and blog (I know, I know… you’ve felt so neglected). I’m grateful for lazy days and the outlet of songwriting. I have pages of songs that may or may not tune the ears of any listener. And if they did, they’re songs meant more for storytelling and performance; songs in the form of art or personal expression that people listen to yet are left uninvolved except to just (hopefully) enjoy. I’ll forever enjoy writing those ‘types’ of songs. They’re actually the easiest to write. But lately, the songs God’s been downloading to me are for the Church and those are hard to write. They’re hard to write because I’m not the only person that will be singing these songs. They must be singable, catchy and memorable if they’re going to be songs that stick. This is very difficult. But they’re also hard to write because their words must be true of God and faithful to His word. I heard it said that we don’t always remember what we hear but we most often remember that which [...]

My brilliant friend Jaret Benson (graphic designer at Bent Tree) did all of the photography, artwork and design for my record Live to Love and posts most of his work on his CreationSwap page. He recently wrote a two-part post on Bent Tree’s blog and I wanted to share it here. He gives great insight into how our Creative God views His creation and our necessary response, finding our identity in Christ and not in what we do, to bear the image of God and use the talents He’s given us to further His Kingdom… I am not creative. That’s the phrase I hear all the time and it makes me cringe. Why? Because it’s not true, not in any way, form, or fashion. For someone whose job is to be creative on a daily basis, I can certainly understand this common statement of self-doubt. However, I would challenge myself and those of us who can identify with this proclamation to think differently and start seeing ourselves not through the lens of Pinterest (which is an amazing resource for the creative), but how God sees his creation. Read the full article on Bent Tree’s blog, Around the Tree.
